The Misunderstanding of Twitter

Do you know what Twitter is? What it can be used for? How big it really is?

Mark Evans over at his blog (Mark Evans Tech) has posted a very interesting post about how misunderstood Twitter is and the possible reasons behind the confusion.

Here is a taster of the reasons and the rest can be found here.

1. The 140-character (or less) limit seems like a restriction to many people. In fact, it’s a way of forcing companies and businesses to get to the point. You have to deliver the message quickly and succinctly without frills or hyperbole.

2. The fact it’s free and shows no signs of having a business model has likely caused many people to think Twitter is just SMS for older people, while teenagers use Facebook and text-messaging.

3. The ROI on Twitter is different from traditional ROI metrics within the marketing and advertising markets where the bottom line is higher sales.

I have been using Twitter much more than FB etc for most of 2009 so far and definitely think it is very misunderstood, personally I think the biggest issue friends and family have it is recognising the world of knowledge it opens up.

If you are interested in what Twitter can do, sign up, add some friends, add me if you want and give it a go! You can’t break it, or use it up so start playing with and connect with some real people, not the old school friends you never actually knew at school.

Daily Mugshot Amusement

For the last 44 days I have been taking photos of my own face on Daily Mugshot which records the photos as a slide reel. It is pretty amusing to see the changes every day, especially with beards and hair. If you have a webcam on your computer give it a go and have a laugh.
